Tasmanian Tiger (thylacine) was a mysterious animal, silent hunter, the largest known carnivorous marsupial that was extinct nearly 80 years ago because of human hunting. ( It's extinction is still being debated.) Official protection of the species by the Tasmanian government was introduced on 10 July 1936, 59 days before the last known specimen died in captivity.
